·DISCLAIMER· I have recently moved on from a fandom blog to a fashion blog, so I apologize if my posts suddenly do not fit with your blog. You may choose to unfollow me.
Honestly, it's a-OK if you're white/yellow/black/brown/etc., or gay/lesbian/trans/pan/bi/etc., or male/female/either/neither/etc., depressed/anorexic/having anxiety/etc. because no matter how you are stereotyped and categorized, I will always look at the human being inside you. Send me a message and we can cry/laugh/discuss about fictional characters together.
I am so sick and tired of people labelling women of any other race than Caucasian as “exotic”, “spicy”, “saucy”, etc. They are human beings, and not some type of Rainforest tribal food.
According to the Oxford dictionary, the word exotic means
or .
So, when you call a black, brown, or yellow woman ‘exotic’, you are literally saying that she is something out of the ordinary and strange, despite being sexually attractive.
The correct way to use the word is: ex) Parrots are exotic animals. ex) In the late 17th century, Europe imported Chinese exotic goods.
Never ever use it in this context: ex) Lupita Nyong’o is an exotic woman. ex) I have a fetish for exotic women.
Now this not only applies to African women, but also to Asian women, Latin women, et cetera the list goes on.
On a side note, “yellow fever” is no different: Asian women are compared to anime characters, and men (especially ignorant white men) think they are automatically either
overly cute schoolgirl with eyes half the size of her face
sex-addicted geishas that will suck your dick just like that
weak and helpless beings that you can manipulate
And I think we all know that these stereotypes are not true.
Same goes for Latin women, and media plays a big role on this too. Magazines and ads portray these women as half naked, perfectly tanned women who lures you to come to places like the Caribbean. They are photoshopped models who are not “saucy” or “spicy” at all. There are so many other ways to compliment a woman, the possibilities are endless.
Please, it’s okay that you didn’t know this before, but now that you do, educate yourself! Read some articles, learn about the topic, and support Black feminism.
Most importantly: Always love yourself. I can’t care less if you were white, black, yellow, brown, I always try to see the human inside of you. It kills me when black girls feel oppressed by the media and apply Whitening Creme to make their skin tone lighter. So don’t do it and accept that you’re beautiful no matter what.
